Business & Program Development Internship – Private Counseling Practice

About Alternative Access Counseling

We are a private counseling practice (LLC, est. 3 years) offering telehealth therapy services across Missouri and Kansas. Our mission is to expand access to mental health through individual therapy, intensives, groups, continuing education, and community education. We are now building an internship team to support both the business operations and program development sides of our practice.

Internship Overview

As a Business, Media & Program Development Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience inside a growing mental health practice. Interns will collaborate as a team and individually on projects in business administration, marketing, healthcare administration, data analytics, event planning, education, and photography/media production.

This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in business, healthcare, marketing, photography, event planning, or education who want to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world professional setting.

 

Location: Remote (Telehealth-based practice, occasional local events in St. Louis, Missouri)
Type: Unpaid academic internship designed to build a resume and engage in networking opportunities 
Duration: Semester or Academic Year (flexible)
Hours: 5-10 hrs/week, flexible scheduling

Supervision:  1 on 1 -1 hour a week with assigned projects and occasional collaboration meetings.  

Start dates' flexible starting November 1, 2025. 


Possible Projects & Responsibilities

Depending on your major and interests, you may work in one or more of these areas:

🔹 Business & Administration

  • Assist with workflow/process improvements and organization.

  • Research tools for scheduling, billing, or practice management.

  • Support small business operations.
     

🔹 Marketing & Communications

  • Develop content for social media, blog, and newsletters.

  • Create marketing materials for intensives, groups, and CEUs.

  • Help design outreach campaigns to grow community visibility.
     

🔹 Marketing & Outreach Analytics​

  • Track your social media performance (engagement, reach, post frequency).

  • Analyze website traffic using Google Analytics.

  • Review email newsletter open rates and click-throughs.

  • Compare referral sources (e.g., Psychology Today profile views vs. Facebook ads).

🔹 Healthcare Administration & Public Health

  • Draft policies & procedures for compliance and best practices.

  • Assist in gathering quality improvement and client feedback data.

  • Support CEU and workshop program design.
     

🔹 Event Management & Hospitality

  • Support planning and logistics for therapy intensives and workshops.

  • Research venues, vendors, and community partnerships.

  • Assist with virtual and in-person event coordination.
     

🔹 Education / Instructional Design

  • Help create educational materials for CEU trainings and community workshops.

  • Design participant guides, slides, and handouts.

  • Support curriculum development for group programs.

  • Research community needs or competitor offerings and present findings in reports.
     

🔹 Photography & Media Production

  • Capture professional photos for marketing, website, and event materials.

  • Assist with creating video clips or reels for social media.

  • Edit images and videos to align with brand identity.

🔹 Disability Advocacy & Accessibility

  • Research disability rights, accommodations, and community resources.

  • Review practice materials, website, and events for ADA compliance.

  • Build partnerships with disability-focused organizations.

  • Ensure all programs and workshops are designed with accessibility in mind.


Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in one of the following (or related):

    • Business, Management, or Operations

    • Marketing, Communications, or PR

    • Healthcare Administration or Public Health

    • Event Planning, Hospitality, or Nonprofit Management

    • Education, Instructional Design, or Curriculum Development

    • Photography, Media Arts, or Digital Media Production
       

  • The lack of desire to get your boss coffee 5 times a day. 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 

  • Good sense of humor and passion for creating.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Interest in mental health, healthcare, or social impact work (no prior experience required).

  • Some knowledge around these identities and cultures: LGBTQIAS2+, Nonmonogamy, sex positivity, immigrants, neurodivergence, disability, BIPOC, and other underrepresented communities.

Boundaries & Expectations

  • Interns do not provide direct clinical services.

  • No access to PHI, client records, or HIPAA-protected systems.

  • All projects are focused on the business, education, and community outreach side of practice growth.
